Convert a lead to a client
When a lead agrees to work with you, convert them to a client. Conversion copies their contact details, address, and notes into a new client record — no retyping needed — and keeps a link back to the original lead for reporting.
- Click Leads in the left sidebar.
- On the lead’s row, click the three-dot menu in the Actions column.
- Click Convert To Client.
The lead’s contact details (name, email, phone, company, and address) are copied into a new client record automatically.

What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”- A new client record is created with the lead’s details.
- The lead’s status changes to Converted.
- The lead stays in your Leads list with a link to the new client, so you keep a record of how the client started.
- You can immediately create quotes, jobs, or invoices for the new client.
Reporting on conversions
Section titled “Reporting on conversions”Use the Leads list filters to see:
- Conversion rate by source (e.g. how many Google leads converted vs. referrals)
- Conversion rate by assigned sales rep
- Average time from New to Converted
When should I convert a lead?
Convert when the lead has committed to work with you — they signed a quote, paid a deposit, or agreed verbally to a measure. Converting too early (before there’s any commitment) clutters your client list with prospects that might never close. Converting too late (after they’re already paying) means their early history isn’t searchable as client history.
What if I converted the wrong lead?
Delete the new client record, then change the original lead’s status back to whatever it should be. The lead record is preserved — only the client record was created in error.
Why is the Convert button disabled?
A lead needs at least a first name, last name, email, and phone number before it can be converted. If any of those are missing, fill them in on the lead first.
What happens to the lead’s status after conversion?
The lead status changes to Converted and a link to the new client appears on the lead. The lead itself stays in your records — useful for reporting on conversion rate by source, assigned salesperson, or time from first contact to close.
Does the lead’s history (notes, activity) carry over to the client?
Contact details, address, and notes copy across. The activity log on the lead stays on the lead record, and a fresh activity log starts on the new client. The link between them means you can navigate back to the lead’s history any time.
Can I convert one lead into multiple clients?
No — each lead converts to a single client. If you have a lead that represents two distinct buyers (a couple buying separately, a contractor referring multiple homeowners), capture them as separate leads from the start.
How do I know how well my pipeline is converting?
Use the Leads list filters to see conversion rate by source (Google, referral, walk-in), by assigned salesperson, or by time period. Most retailers review this monthly to see where the best leads are coming from.
