View the activity log for a job
Every change to a job is recorded in its history log. It’s your audit trail — useful when something looks off, when a client disputes a charge, or when you need to understand how a record got to its current state.
Open the history log
Section titled “Open the history log”- Open a job from the Jobs list.
- Click More Actions in the top-right → History.
- The History dialog opens showing all changes, newest first.
What you see
Section titled “What you see”Each entry in the History dialog shows:
- Date — the date and time the change was made
- Updated By — the name of the team member who made the change
- Details — what changed, including the field name and the before and after values
The bottom of the log shows the original Created By entry when the job was first created.
Common history entries
Section titled “Common history entries”| Entry type | Example |
|---|---|
| Created | ”Created By: Jane Smith” |
| Field updated | ”Start Date: Updated from 01/03/2025 to 15/03/2025” |
| Line item changed | ”Line Item 1 Desc: Updated from [old text] to [new text]” |
What’s recorded in the history log?
Every change to a job: edits to dates, line items, status, assignees, scope, notes, and any other field. Each entry shows who made the change, when, and the before/after values where relevant.
Can I edit or delete history entries?
No — the history log is immutable. That’s intentional: it’s the audit trail. If you make a mistake, fix the underlying field on the job — the correction itself becomes a new history entry.
Do invoices, quotes, and clients have a history log too?
Yes — every major record has one. Open the record and look for More Actions → History (or Activity, depending on the record type).
How long is history kept?
For the life of the record. As long as the job (or quote, invoice, client) exists in Service Buddy, its full history is available.
Can I export the history log?
Not as a separate export, but the history is included in any back-end audit Service Buddy support runs on request. For most needs, screenshotting the History dialog is enough.
Why don’t I see who made a specific change?
Possibly because the change came from an automated action (like an invoice auto-closing a job) rather than from a person. Those entries usually show “System” or similar instead of a user name.
