Create a work order
A work order summarises the job — what needs to be done, which line items are included, and who’s assigned — so your crew has everything they need in the field.

How is a work order different from the job itself?
The job is the full record (client, billing, dates, status, history). The work order is a focused crew-facing document — what’s being done, which line items, who’s assigned. Most retailers print or send the work order so installers have a clean reference on site without seeing pricing they don’t need to. For outside installers tracked under the External tab in Manage Team, the work order is how you pass them their assignment without giving them a Service Buddy login.
Should I show unit cost on the work order?
Generally no — most retailers hide it so install crews focus on the work, not the pricing. Show it only when the crew needs to confirm pricing on site (rare) or when commission is calculated based on what they completed.
Can I attach photos to a work order?
Yes — the Create Work Order dialog lets you upload or drag in images. Useful for room-layout sketches, problem areas the office wants to flag, or photos from the original measure.
Can the same job have more than one work order?
Yes — if the job runs across multiple visits or crews, generate a separate work order per visit. Open the job and use More Actions → Create Work Order again for each one.
How does the assigned team member see the work order?
If you used Save and Send, they get an in-app notification linking to it. They can also see it from the job’s View Work Orders list. For installers in the field, opening it on a phone or tablet works the same as on desktop.
Do I need a quote or job first?
A job, yes — work orders are generated from a job. If you haven’t created the job, do that first (Create a job), then generate the work order from it.
